Take a minute to meet the
family and friends that carry on the tradition of bringing the best of
classic country music to the Hickory Grove Opry!

 |
John Burd, son of J. Milton and Elenor Burd, nephew of Don and Walt
Burd was salesman for the Burd Boys, and enjoyed traveling with them to
all of their Country Music Shows. John was in charge of all the sales of
the Burd Boys records, tapes and pictures. In his own words "He
loved every minute of it!" So proud was he of the Burd Boys, that
even after the tragic death of his uncle, he continued to promote the
Burd Boys and their music, in hopes they would never be forgotten and
that they would one day achieve the fame he feels in his heart they
deserve.
|
Working
out of a home studio, Johns first project was a video he spent 3 years
putting together which included photos of the band as well as live
footage and background music. To be followed up by two additional videos
of the Country Music Shows. Next John and Ellie (his mother) organized a
show "In Tribute to The Burd Boys" which included Nashville's
own, Steve Hall and the Shot Gun Red Band. When John and Ellie first met
Steve on the General Jackson Show Boat in Nashville, Tennessee, him and
his band reminded the Burd's so much of The Burd Boys that John would
not give up until he arranged for Steve and His Band to come out for the
show. Since that time, Steve has become real friend to the Burd Family,
and has returned to the Hickory Grove Opry on a regular basis with his
band to continue in the tribute to the Burd Boys.

John also produced 2 CD's titled "Memories of the Burd
Boys" and The Memories Live On" both taken from the master
tapes, songs of over 30 years ago, some written for the Burd Boys. Also
included were songs written by their manager, Sid Kliener, and some of
the songs written by Art Landon, member of the Burd Boys. The CD's were
produced in his basement studio, working off old reel to reel masters
and John is self taught. John himself is surprised where his dedication
has led him.
|
In addition to the Videos and CD's, John has since developed
additional merchandise from Tee-shirts to hats and bumper stickers.
There is even a commemorative doll in the works which he hopes to have
available for purchase soon. The Burd Boys may make it to Nashville
after all!
